Breaking Rick’s Community Support Drive News
Over the 4th of July weekend, the Portland Peninsula Optimist Club’s fireworks stand was broken into and robbed, resulting in the loss of more than $10,000 in fundraising potential. Given this is one of the organization’s main annual fundraisers, Rick’s quickly identified this community need and jumped into action by donating $2,500 and by pitching in to help get the public involved through local media coverage of the theft.
The Portland Peninsula Optimists Club supports local youth-focused organizations and community outreach in the Portland area. As an organization, they sprang into action to help local businesses during the Covid-19 lockdown by purchasing almost $10,000 worth of gift cards, and by donating an additional $10,000 to the Sunshine Foundation. Now we have a chance to rally as a community and help their organization in return. Keep up the great work POC!

Rick’s Custom Fencing & Decking is excited to announce an initiative to support the communities we serve, and we hope you will help us in doing so! As a local business that has operated in the Northwest for over 40 years, we want to give back, especially in these times when our most vulnerable populations — and the organizations that provide them support — are most in need.
In the month of July, Rick’s will be donating $10,000 to Sparks of Hope, an organization whose Mission is to empower children who are survivors of abuse to thrive by providing special services to encourage hope, and by creating opportunities that will develop trust and healing so they can achieve lifelong success.
This donation will help to fund their amazing camps, some of which were cancelled due to Covid-19, some which were postponed, and those that have gone virtual to bring the kids together in a world that feels increasingly isolated.
“As Covid-19 is reshaping our lives, we scramble to soften the blow of having to cancel our main annual May fundraiser. This will no doubt be a challenging time for our nonprofit not only financially, but with the current social distancing restrictions, we are unable to offer our one-on-one healing programs/camps. We are having to adapt and modify the way we do our programs this year by making them virtual. As our program participants (our most vulnerable) struggle for connection, we are feeling blessed that we can at least offer them that hope. Purchasing and sending camp supplies across the country is no small feet nor is it cheap. We and the children we serve need your support more than ever as we navigate through this uncertain time.”
— Lee Ann Mead, Founder & Program Director
In addition to our financial donation, we want to help spread the word that Sparks of Hope needs items from their Wish List to support their 2020 Virtual Camp. Please consider sending them an item or to so every kid can have this much needed support and experience!
