How To Care For and Maintain Your Aluminum Fence

Aluminum Fence Maintenance

Your home’s exterior requires cleaning and Aluminum Products by Digger Specialties, Inc. are no different. Over time, with exposure to outdoor elements, your product will show signs of normal weathering such as a slight loss of gloss and a slight color change. Cleaning your Aluminum Product is the best way to protect your investment by minimizing the effects of weathering as well as removing dirt, grime, and other substances detrimental to the appearance of your railing, fencing, or columns.

Hand Washing Instructions

  1. Wet the Digger Specialties, Inc. Aluminum Product with a garden hose
  2. Hand wash all surfaces with a sponge, soft cloth, or soft bristle brush using a mild detergent (see recommendations below)
  3. For best results start at the top of the product and work downward
  4. Thoroughly rinse the product to remove all residues. Water with high solids or mineral content may leave spots – for areas with these issues we recommend drying the product with a soft white cloth

Pressure Washing Instructions

  1. A detergent additive is suggested (see recommendations below)
  2. The pressure capabilities of pressure washers vary greatly. Test your pressure washer setting in a less visible area and inspect the results prior to completing the entire project. Do not exceed 1,000 PSI and keep nozzle tip at least 18” from your product. Wash all exposed surfaces
  3. Thoroughly rinse the product to remove all residues. Water with high solids or mineral content may leave spots – for areas with these issues we recommend drying the product with a soft white cloth

Detergent Recommendations

General purpose household soaps and detergents are acceptable. Do not use any type of soap or detergent that recommends gloves or respirators for personal protection. Do not use soap or detergent that could damage a painted finish. See manufacturer cleaning instructions here.

Aluminum Fence Warranty

Digger Specialties, Inc. (DSI) warrants to the purchaser that its DSI Aluminum Products are free of defects in workmanship and materials and that, in the course of normal and proper use, its Powder Coated Aluminum Products will not crack, peel, blister, flake, rust, nor be subject to abnormal weathering per AAMA 2603, 2604, or 2605 specifications (depending on powder coating used on product).

    • I have a warranty claim to file with my aluminum fence? Where do I go?

      Per the warranty, submit your claim via the manufacturer’s website within 30 days of discovering the claimed defect.

    • How should I clean my aluminum fence?

      Handwash: To clean your aluminum fence, use a mild detergent mixed with water and a soft brush or cloth to scrub the surface, then rinse thoroughly with water from a garden hose. avoiding abrasive cleaners or pressure washing to prevent damage to the finish. Pressure Wash: Use a mild detergent additive (following recommendations) and test pressure washer in an inconspicuous area before proceeding. Avoid exceeding 1,000 PSI, keep nozzle tip 18" away, and wash all exposed surfaces.

    • How long can I expect my aluminum fence to last?

      You can expect your aluminum fence to last for several decades, typically between 20 to 30 years or more, due to its inherent durability, resistance to rust and corrosion, and minimal maintenance requirements.
