Thanks a Million, Portland Teachers! A Month of Gratitude with Schoolhouse Supplies
At Rick’s Custom Fencing & Decking, we know the foundation of any strong community is built on those who support and uplift it—and few do that more selflessly than our teachers. That’s why we were honored to sponsor and volunteer at this year’s “Thanks a Million!” celebration series, hosted by our friends at Schoolhouse Supplies.
Throughout May, we joined forces with community partners, donors, and volunteers to recognize educators across the Portland Metro Area—especially those serving in schools where 50% or more of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. These incredible teachers often go above and beyond, and we were proud to stand behind an event that put them in the spotlight.
From the kick-off on May 3rd to the finale on May 22nd, the energy was inspiring. Over 400 teachers attended the five appreciation events, where they enjoyed raffles, school supply giveaways, tasty treats, and the chance to connect with fellow educators. It was a joy to witness them leave with full carts and even fuller hearts.

“Thank you for sharing your goodies, organizing the event, and delivering compassion to teachers. We are uplifted emotionally, mentally, and physically.”
— Shoko Parker, 10th Grade Teacher, Roosevelt High School
“Not only did I get much needed supplies for my classroom, but I also had a blast with my teacher bestie! What a great boost to help get through the last few weeks of the school year!”
— Deirdre Sennott, 9th Grade Teacher, David Douglas High School
“Thank you to Schoolhouse Supplies, and all those who’ve supported them, for such an amazing event. I genuinely felt appreciation for being an educator.”
— Joann Robinson-Tillery, 8th Grade Teacher, Floyd Light Middle School
Thanks to the generosity of our community—and the tireless work of Schoolhouse Supplies—we helped:
- Host five unique appreciation events packed with gratitude
- Distribute thousands of classrooms supplies and self-care items
- Make every educator feel seen, supported, and celebrated
To everyone who donated, volunteered, or cheered from the sidelines: thank you. And to the teachers who show up day after day with passion and purpose—you’re the reason we build stronger communities, one project and one student at a time.
We’re grateful we could play a part in honoring your work. Here’s to the impact you make, every single day.
