A great example of the latter is this year’s ShareFest Tri-Cities. Last month, some 3,000 volunteers came together on a Saturday to tackle 91 different community improvement projects – among them a large, coordinated effort to build a fence for an off-leash dog area at Badger Mountain Park.
To prepare for the fence installation, Tri-Cities crews pre-dug the holes, leaving volunteers to set the posts and attach the metal fence materials. Following the fence installation, Tri-Cities volunteers commented on the satisfaction they received from looking at the fence and saying, “I helped build that.”
Members of the community had been campaigning for a local dog park for years, and building the fence was a major step toward creating a permanent place for pooches to run. Well done, Tri-Cities!
