After scouring photographs of some of the Northwest’s most hideous fences, we finally rooted out the ugliest of them all. This eyesore has been languishing in the Salem, Ore., backyard of proud owner Alicia Miller.
As the 2010 winner of our annual Ugliest Fence Contest, Alicia will receive 100 feet of free fencing materials.
The Ugliest Fence Contest takes place every summer and was held this year during our 30th anniversary celebration. Rick’s Custom Fencing & Decking was founded in 1980 in Hillsboro, Ore., and we opened the Salem store in 1998. Our Salem outlet serves not only as a retail outlet but as our production plant for cedar, vinyl and welded metal products, such as ornamental gates and chain link.
If you entered the Ugliest Fence Contest and didn’t win, you have two options:
1. Save your ugly fence for next year and try again.
2. Take matters into your own hands and build a new cedar or vinyl fence. Rick’s has plenty of resources to help you out, including our free fence materials calculator app for the iPhone and our new eBook, A User’s Guide to Fencing & Decking Materials, which is available for free throughout July.
