If you’ve been wondering what to do with that decrepit eyesore in the backyard, here’s your chance: Rick’s is on the hunt for the Northwest’s ugliest fence. Salem, Portland and Tri-Cities area residents whose fences have seen better days can enter our annual Ugliest Fence Contest by submitting photos of their fences to any of our fencing and decking locations.
The contest takes place between now and June 30. The winner will receive 100 feet of wood fencing materials, with a retail value of $899.
To enter, snap a photo of your unsightly fence and send it in along with an entry form – you can enter online, in person or by email or snail mail. Read the full rules and instructions. Check back after July 9 to view a photo of the winning fence.
If your fencing materials aren’t ugly enough for the contest and you’d like to keep it that way, follow the three golden rules for fence maintenance:
1. Clean your fence regularly to remove dirt and mold.
2. Apply fence stain every few years to protect against sun damage.
3. Inspect your fencing materials seasonally and keep up on necessary repairs.
Cleaning and staining didn’t do the trick? Here are five ways to deal with an ugly fence.
