Rick’s Fencing Sponsors Keizer Youth Baseball Program

March 5th, 2012

KYSA LogoTake me out to the ballgame; take me out to the crowd! And while you’re at it, think about buying some fence materials. Salem residents might find that last line a bit strange, until they learn that Rick’s Custom Fencing & Decking is the featured sponsor of KYSA (Keizer Youth Sports Association), the largest youth softball and baseball association in the Salem-Keizer area. We are thrilled to be giving back to the Salem-Keizer community, which has long supported us by purchasing our fence materials.

Salem youths ages 5-14 enjoy baseball and softball through KYSA. Nearly 800 families participate in the league’s programs, which include over 60 teams that play on a complex of 12 fields! As your leading provider of fence installation, Salem residents, we can tell you that such a complex requires plenty of chain link fencing!

Rick’s Fencing and Decking Donates Fence Materials to Turner Flood Victims

January 30th, 2012

Rick's Turner Donation of Fencing MaterialsTurner, Oregon residents suffered widespread flooding on January 18th. With river waters rising two and a half feet over the town’s bridge, and more than 100 homes damaged by flood waters, it quickly became clear that Turner needed help. However, because the town is so small, federal funds could not be obtained. Things weren’t looking too good for this hamlet in the Willamette Valley.

Fortunately, local residents and businesses stepped up. Rick’s Fencing and Decking joined KUPL’s “Rebuilding Turner” campaign, which asked for donations of non-perishable food, cash donations, and building supplies. Rick’s Fencing and Decking donated a truckload of fencing materials—enough to erect a 100-foot fence.

Rick’s Donates Cedar Fence Installation to Portland Women’s Shelter

July 21st, 2011

cedar fence donationWomen who are recovering from addiction or other toxic situations sometimes need a safe place to live with their children while they get back on their feet. At the Stepping Stones home, newly built by Portland’s CODA recovery center, children who moved in last month lacked something essential: a secure place to play.

Rick’s was happy to step in and fill the gap. To help protect the children at Stepping Stones from nearby construction and other hazards, we donated the cedar fence materials and labor required to secure the yard with a new cedar fence.

July 8th, 2011

2011-Ugliest-Fence-WinnerFor the past several years we’ve presented a challenge to Northwest homeowners: Show us your ugliest fences. This year, after reviewing some truly terrible fences, we’ve found the worst. Corvallis, Oregon resident Sherry Newton’s dilapidated, rotten, moss- and lichen-covered fence has the honor of being named the winner of our 2011 Ugliest Fence Contest.

For having a fence in such broken-down condition and letting all of us be privy to it, Sherry will receive 100 feet of free fencing materials.

Fence Installation Spotlight: Salem’s Deepwood Estate

June 2nd, 2011

Every now and then we’re captivated by the unique or artistic way a yard or garden makes use of its fence installation. Salem, Oregon offers a perfect example of this creativity in its historic Deepwood Estate.

Built in 1894, the Deepwood Estate is an ornate, Queen Anne-style home with 5.5 acres of unique, carefully planned gardens. In the 1930s, the owner hired the Northwest’s first female landscaping firm to design the estate’s English-style gardens; the result now stands as the only remaining publicly available example of the landmark firm’s work.

Rick’s Donates Fence Materials for Tri-Cities Family

May 19th, 2011

Navy Corpsman Darren Miller had just returned from his deployment and moved his wife and two kids into their brand-new dream home in Pasco when he was called away yet again, to Afghanistan. Although the home was complete, the backyard was not. With no fence or lawn installed, the yard failed to meet city codes, news station KNDU reported.

“The backyard was just all dirt, so people people just kind of got used to walking through, and just kind of coming in my backyard. It was a little concerning,” said Jennifer Miller, whose husband is not expected home until Thanksgiving. “Dogs come in the yard in the middle of the night, and I find giant footprints.”
